    How to Treat Enlarged Pores

    beautiful skin

It’s really too bad that the eyes are the window to the soul, because the eyes live on the face, and the face is prone to embarrassing skin problems that are difficult to live with. I’ve been living with oily, acne prone skin for my entire life, and while managing breakouts is a constant struggle, I’m completely at a loss as to how to deal with the enlarged pores that I see around my nose and cheek areas. These look like dark holes all around my face, and instead of looking smooth and fresh, my skin looks enflamed and shiny even when it’s dirty. So I set out on a mission to find out all I could about skin pores, how they work and what makes them so big.

Imagine my surprise when I came across a website that seemed to be designed just for someone with my questions about pores and healthy skin! The site is called DermTV, and it is really interesting because it doesn’t simply contain pages and pages of text about skin care issues, or a lot of links to other more medically legitimate websites. Instead all of the information I needed  about how to achieve and maintain healthy skin was all there on the site, broken down into short, educational videos on a wide variety of skin care topics and questions. There was even a video explaining how enlarged pores form around the face, and what could be done to start correcting the problem.

The doctor in the video explained that the face is full of pores, which are really just tubular shafts that extend from the surface of the skin all the way down beneath the epidermis to a tiny oil gland below. These oil glands send up small amount of oil to the surface of the skin to keep it moist and elastic. The only bad thing is that the inside of these tubes are covered in skin cells as well, and when the skin cells shed off, they get caught up in the oil, often causing a clogged pore. Unless you exfoliate this clog immediately, the oil gland below will keep sending up oil to the surface of the skin and the pore will become engorged.

The doctor in the video informed me that best way to keep these enlarged pores from taking over your face, or from getting any worse if they’ve already appeared, is to use a combination of physical and chemical exfoliation.
